The screenings organized by FICX at the Pumarín - Gijón Sur Centre reach a new record of spectators with 6% over those of the total of year 2018.

Gijón/Xixón, 30 May 2019

Next Saturday, June 1, at 20:00h, at the Centro Municipal Integrado de Pumarín - Gijón Sur the last screening of the cycle VOS of FICXPlus will be held.
The cycle will return in autumn, within the stable activity of FICX - Festival Internacional de Cine de Gijón/Xixón throughout the year.

The film chosen to close this cycle before the usual summer break is 'Verano el 84', an American production directed by the RKSS collective (authors of the acclaimed film Turbo Kid) that arrives in Gijón after winning over critics and audiences at festivals such as Sundance and Sitges. The story, plenty with tributes to the best fantastic cinema of the 80s (in the line of Stranger Things), focus on a group of young people who suspect that a police officer in their neighbourhood is a serial killer.

FICXPlus VOS cycle already has 3,690 spectators, which is 6% more than in 2018, an average of 200 attendees per screening and recording absolute full house at the screenings of titles such as La mujer de la montaña, Entre dos aguas, Border, Un asunto de familia or Girl.

Yet, the activity of FICXPlus will continue over the next few months with new screenings in collaboration with different entities, such as those that will take place at the Antigua Escuela de Comercio (free admission) in collaboration with the Fundación Municipal de Cultura and as part of the Book Fair of Gijón/Xixón (FeLiX). In this frame, a minicycle will include the films LAS CARICIAS DEL FUEGO (Alejandro Céspedes) on 13 June at 19:00h; LA LIBRERÍA (Isabel Coixet) on 14 June at 19:00h; and EX LIBRIS: LA BIBLIOTECA PÚBLICA DE NUEVA YORK (Frederick Wiseman) on 15 June at 17:30h.

This collaboration joins those carried out by FICXPlus throughout 2019 with MUSOC (Social and Human Rights Film Festival of Asturias); the Tertulia Feminista Les Comadres; the LGBTIQ Film Festival of the Niemeyer Centre; the Gijón Sound and Tsunami music festivals; the Con Otras Miradas Short Film Festival; or the European initiative #Cities4Europe in collaboration with the European Affairs Office of Gijón, among others.
