BOTH EVENTS RENEW THIS INITIATIVE TO SEEK COMMON AREAS OF COOPERATION TO ENCOURAGE THE CIRCULATION OF CINEMATOGRAPHIC WORKS OF PARTICULAR INTEREST
Following the success in the first edition of the cycle CROSSROADS - ZINEMALDIA | FICX, an initiative that attracted more than 200 spectators per screening during the 56th Gijón/Xixón International Film Festival, both festivals have decided to renew this agreement that aims to find a new framework as far as the policy of exhibition of cinematographic works in the different International Festivals dedicated to the Seventh Art is concerned.

This meeting space is materialized in the joint exhibition of several films to improve the circulation of films of special interest, regardless of the policy of exclusivity in the competitive sections of each festival. In addition, the CROSSROADS - ZINEMALDIA | FICX season serves as an affirmation of the geographical and historical cultural ties that both cities, San Sebastián/Donostia and Gijón/Xixón have sustained throughout history.

The San Sebastian Film Festival and the FICX will therefore continue to show their interest in joining forces to help increase the visibility of works that are key to understanding the new forms of contemporary cinema and their links with today's society. This interest will be reflected in the programming of five outstanding titles from the current year's film panorama, selected by the Donostia-San Sebastián festival. In addition to its exhibition, Asturian audiences will be able to enjoy presentations such as those made in the first edition by Maialen Beloki, deputy director of the Zinemaldia since 2016 or Amaia Serrulla, a member of its selection committee.

We can already advance one of the titles that will be part of the selection: Las letras de Jordi, a debut feature by filmmaker Maider Fernández, which will premiere in the New Directors section of the 2019 San Sebastian Film Festival. This is a project developed in the residency program Ikusmira Berriak, winner of the REC Grabaketa Estudioa award for postproduction and also went through the first edition of the Push Play Work in Progress Session, within the first edition of the FICX Industry Days in 2017. The film features the story of Jordi, a 51-year-old man with cerebral palsy and his personal relationship with God.

Other contents of the season will be revealed at the presentation by both festival directors (José Luis Rebordinos-San Sebastian and Alejandro Díaz-Gijón) that will take place on September 23, 17:00 hours in the frame of the celebration of San Sebastian Film Festival.
