                                                                                                                                        OFFICIAL SECTION
Both in the feature films section and in the shorts section, the titles included in the Festival´s competition are undoubtedly the right choice for the spectator with an interest beyond the conventional cinema. In addition to this, the Non-fiction and Documentary categories, held for the first time in 2007.

ENFANTS TERRIBLES
The best children´s and teens´ cinema of the moment. From animation comedies to social conflicts played by teens, these section´s films always contain a moral. They are divided into two categories according to age (6-12 and from 13 years old on). About a dozen titles will compete at the 46th Annual Gijón Film Festival.

ESBILLA
One of the most popular sections among the public. This section gathers carefully selected titles that for diverse reasons don´t fit in the official section´s standard but that must be present at the Festival.

LLENDES
Risky bets, extreme approaches, unorthodox films. The titles included in this section mean a new experience in the audio-visual field. Producer Eve Heller will be the main protagonist with an extracting of her short films.

UNIVERSO MEDIA
This section was born in the year 1998 with the aim of  considering topics regarding philosophy and cinema to give a new perspective to controversial themes such as taboos and the situation of the cinema faced with visual culture. In 2008 Ensayo Digital (Universo Media) means a turning point, which will serve to put the theoretical basis of previous years into practice.

RETROSPECTIVES AND SEASONS
Claire Denis, Larry Clark, Abbas Kiarostami, Todd Solondz...The most representative directors of the Festival´s essence find here their own space. Film past and present join together in this retrospective tributes, where the philmography of directors such as Tscherkassky, Hadjithomas and Joreige or Lucrecia Martel will be screened. In addition to this, the seasons by European women film directors (Una parte del cielo) and the American political documentary (La Utopía Yanki) will offer a general approach to human relationships from a viewpoint far from the conventional one.

DON´T JUST TELL US MOVIES...MAKE THEM!
This section aims at encouraging Asturian young people´s creativity, group work and  entrepreneurial spirit. In accordance to European guidelines, cinema has been chosen as the representative of a creative industry, where young people can go from spectators to film professionals.

NOCHE DEL CORTO ESPAÑOL (SPANISH SHORT FILM)
This is probably one of the public´s most eagerly awaited moments. The beginners´motivation or the talent of those, who have decided to turn short films into their main style, become important with the screening of the latest Spanish films.

DÍA DÁSTURIES
The Festival´s commitment to Asturian productions and directors is evident in this section, where all short films directed by Asturian film makers are admitted.
